I was all alone, but I could still hear the piano music; not like someone was playing it nearby, like it was on top of what I was doing, like a movie soundtrack.
So I walk around this field, and I see a small, cozy-looking cabin or lodge-type place nearby. I go to investigate, passing a small pond as I do so. I walk up and enter the cabin, and it's completely empty. No sign of habitation. I walk through all the rooms; the kitchen, the main sitting room, even the bathroom; all of them are tidy and pristine, but completely devoid of life. I head upstairs to the second level to look for people, but it's filthy upstairs. The windows are broken, dust is everywhere; severed deer heads, hunting trophies that were thrown aside, litter the floor. The place smells of mold and the wood is rotting.
I run downstairs but, somehow, all the downstairs rooms are in the same sort of condition all of a sudden. The comfy armchair has chunks torn out of it and is on its side. The table has a huge crack in it. Dust covers everything. In the sitting room, I look around in discomfort and notice a mirror hanging on the wall. It is caked in dust and also cracked. The piano music never stops playing that quiet, serene melody. In the mirror, however, I can barely see my reflection...and that of something else behind me. Something moving.
I do an about-face to see what's behind me and the answer is...nothing. Nothing is behind me. I glace back at the mirror and my reflection is there, but nothing shadowy moves behind it this time. Suddenly, I hear a strange sound, almost like a thud and a scurry, come from across the floor; from behind me once again. I turn around and there's nothing there once more. The music is still going.
Creeped out, I run out the cabin to the meadow from before. However, when I'm a few steps out the door, I see that the meadow is no more. The grass is torched and burned. The little pond from before is bubbling now, and the water looks like thick black tar or sludge. The sky, before a wonderful blue color, is now a painful myriad of red and gray.
What's creepiest of all, though, is that all over the ground are skeletons. Human skeletons; they are all gray and charred, like the people they belonged to were burned alive. Some grimace in pain or fear; others seem to be laughing. The piano melody never stops playing. I turn around to look at the cabin, but the structure has been replaced with a smoldering ruin, collapsed and soot-caked. Dust and ash stirs inside the ruin, but doesn't succeed in hiding more torched, grinning skeletons. As the filthy ash spins into their bones, I hear something behind me. The piano music never stops; it has stayed hauntingly serene the entire time.
...so yeah, that's basically where the nightmare ends. I think I died. (In the dream.) Creeped me out, it did.
Oh, and while I was typing this and remembering, I suddenly recognized the piano tune! It's very similar to this one: [link] I recently discovered and favorited it on youtube and have been listening to it a lot, so I guess my subconscious based the piano soundtrack on that song. Listen to it and imagine going through my nightmare. It'll creep you out.
Devious Comments
I do agree that your dream was very creepy, but the constantly changing scenery could be from the fear of the phantom or whatever you thought you heard, maybe your fear caused your mind to distort the beauty of the place into something just as creepy, I don't know.

its a subject of mind over matter. If i don't mind, it doesn't matter.
He would fight for those who had fought for him. Avenge those who had sacrificed so he could live. And he would kill for the chance of a new future.
Why lie? Truth is MUCH more fun!
It's more like a dark pit of emptiness that slowly brightens up into the reality of daylight. Who knows, maybe I just don't get enough sleep.
